Our History

Abiola and Olufunke have served as workers and ministers in different capacities since 1995 overseeing different ministries at several RCCG branches both in Nigeria and the United States and more recently at the RCCG Salvation Center in San Antonio, under the leadership of provincial Pastors Koye and Joyce Sanni

History of RCCG

In North America, there are over 800 parishes as of December 2015 spread across different cities and states of USA and Canada. There are also parishes in the Caribbean states of Haiti and Jamaica, South America, the Middle East, Australia, India, and several other nations.

Presently, the RCCG has over 35,000 parishes globally and is present in 198 countries.

RCCG was started in Nigeria in 1952 by a man of God, Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi. Though an illiterate, he was mighty in the word of God. As Israel is enjoying the covenant of Abraham today, so is RCCG enjoying God’s covenant with the late Akindayomi.

Akindayomi was 71 years old when he passed on to glory in 1980. Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the current General Overseer, fondly called Daddy G.O., was ordained a pastor of the church in 1975, and his appointment as a leader of the church was formalized in 1981. There were 40 parishes in all when Pastor Adeboye took over the leadership, but the church now has thousands of parishes around the world as God began to fulfill the covenant with the founder through Adeboye.

Pastor Adeboye is a man of God who has been a tremendous blessing and inspiration to numerous people and has drawn lost souls to salvation by the grace of God.

The popular church program, the Holy Ghost service, is a monthly all-night miracle service held every first Friday at the Redemption Camp in Lagos, Nigeria. Millions attend this program from around the world. The Holy Ghost service is now held in some cities in North America, including Washington DC, Toronto and many others.

History of RCCG

Our Vision and Mission

As received by the General Overseer, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, and communicated to the Headquarters leaders, our vision and mission statement shall remain intact. They are as follows:

  • To make heaven.
  • To take as many people with us.
  • To have a member of RCCG in every family of all nations.
  • To accomplish No. 1 above, holiness will be our lifestyle.
  • To accomplish No. 2 and 3 above, we will plant churches within five minutes walking distance in every city and town of developing countries and within five minutes driving distance in every city and town of developed countries.
  • We will pursue these objectives until every Nation in the world is reached for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Belief

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is “God’s Word”, written by human authors inspired by The Holy Spirit. We believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, and that the Bible remains relevant and the manual for every area of human life through all generations. We receive the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament as eternal, authoritative, coherent, complete and all sufficient. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Holy Trinity

We believe in the Divine Trinity – one Triune God who exists in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – eternal in being, identical in nature, equal in power and glory and with the same attributes and perfections. 1 John 5:7

God  we believe that there is only one God, the first person of the Trinity, the Creator of both visible and invisible creatures. Genesis 1:1

Jesus  we believe that Jesus isF the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One. He has existed throughout eternity, one of the persons of the Holy Trinity, the Son, the only begotten Son of the living God. His coming to the world was foretold by prophets, he was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born by the Virgin Mary, without sin. He came to the world to save mankind from sin. He lived a perfect life, surrendered his life to be crucified as the sacrifice for sin. He then resurrected and rose to heaven where he has become our High Priest. Jesus Christ will return to establish the kingdom of God on earth, and rule forever as the King of kings and the Lord of lords. John 1:1-14

The Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit is the third Person in the Trinity. He convicts of sin and brings salvation to mankind; he performs the work of regeneration and sanctification in born again believers. He also gives believers divine gifts to use for the glory of God. John 15:26, 16:8-15

Salvation

God created man (Adam) in His image, but Adam disobeyed God and sin came into the world. Consequently, all of Adam’s offspring (all mankind) became sinners by inheriting the nature of fallen Adam. Sin separated mankind from God, bringing him under condemnation and judgment of a just and Holy God. Man in his fallen state cannot approach God or save himself and therefore needs a savior. Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins. He is the only way to the Father. Salvation is available to everyone and can be received by acknowledging one’s sins, repenting of them; and accepting God’s offer of salvation through Jesus Christ. Genesis 3:1-24, Romans 3:23-24, 10:8-10

Sanctification

The word sanctification in the Greek language is “hagiasmos” meaning (1) to be apart from sin (2) consecrated unto God, to be conformed to His holiness, purity, and perfection of character. The scripture teaches that “sanctified” is what the believer is [not a process, but a state, which the believer has already entered into once and for all. Perfection, the total yielding of one’s life to the Holy Spirit, is a spiritual growth process for those who have been sanctified and consecrated to God. Perfection and true holiness are impossible without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. All attempts at achieving perfection without the Holy Spirit generally results in frustration and failure. Acts 20:32, 1 Peter 1:15, 1 Thes 4:3

Baptisms

Water Baptism – Believing in Christ produces an inward change in our heart while baptism in water is an outward act of obedience that testifies to the change that has occurred in our hearts. Water baptism symbolizes our oneness with Christ in His burial and resurrection; a separation from the old life of sin and defeat and a coming up to a new life of righteousness and victory, empowered by the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:18-20

Holy Spirit Baptism – The baptism in the Holy Ghost is a supernatural equipping of a Christian with God’s power for effective witness and service. The initial evidence of Holy Spirit’s baptism is speaking in an unknown tongue as the Spirit gives expression. The unknown tongue is a unique prayer language given to the believer which is understood by God but unknown to man. The Holy Spirit’s baptism enables every Christian to build up his/her own spiritual life through a direct and continual communion with God. It is the gateway into a supernatural life in which both the gifts and fruits of the Holy Ghost are manifested. Acts 2:38-39

Divine Healing

Sickness is a direct consequence of the fall of man and his continuance in sin. Redemption not only dealt with sin but also its consequences, which includes sickness and diseases. When Christ died on the Cross, he not only bore our sins, but also paid for our sicknesses. We receive divine healing for our bodies by laying claim to the finished work of Christ on the Cross, through faith in the word of God. Believers receive healing for their bodies and souls, but they also are instructed to minister healing and deliverance to others in the name of Jesus. This can be accomplished by laying on of hands, praying for others, and by anointing the sick with oil in the name of the Lord. Acts 10:38, 1 Peter 2:24, James 5:14-15

The Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper, also known as the Holy Communion, symbolizes a memorial of His suffering, death, and prophecy of His second coming. Jesus Christ commanded the church to do it in His remembrance. It consists of sharing bread and the fruit of the vine, the two elements that represent Jesus’ body that was broken for our sins and his blood that was shed for our redemption. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

About Prayer

The Bible commands us to pray and not to faint and to pray without ceasing. Col 4:2, 1 Thes 5:17, 1 Cor 7:8, Luke 18:1 The Apostles put prayer first in their lives and they spent much time in prayer. Acts 6:4, Rom 1:9, Col 1:9. It is God’s plan and order that we should pray to receive all He has promised in His treasure for us. Jms 4:2, Dan 9:3, Matt 7:7-11, Matt 9: 24-29, Luke 11:13 We must pray only by the name of Jesus, John 16:23, 1 Tim 2:1-5. Without faith, our prayer shall be powerless before God Jms 1:6-8, Heb 11:6 The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities in prayer Rom 8:26
